The GRE Online Examination is available seven days a week, 24/7. The GRE Online examination is offered everywhere except in Mainland China and Iran. The test schedule will be provided after 24 hours of registration.
How to Take the GRE Test at a Test Centers?
The GRE paper-based General Test can be taken in any month of the year. GRE Examiners can take the exam at any Prometric test center or testing locations outside the Prometric test center network. If an examiner would like to take other types of GRE aside from the General Test, the date availability and location will vary. Not all types are offered at all testing centers.

When can you register for the GRE test?
The computer test or online GRE is open to any registration dates for 365 days. The paper-delivered examination has selected dates. Register for the GRE exam 60 days before the deadline of your desired university to give yourself adequate time before your application. The 60 days interval also helps if it is necessary to retake the GRE.
When is the best date to retake the GRE test?
GRE retake can be completed after 21 days from your first exam. Five retakes are allowed every year at any month.
How to register for the GRE exam?
To register for the GRE exam, follow one of these options:
- Online Registration. Register online at the official website of ETS. After completing the registration process, print the voucher provided. Payments can be made through online banking with a credit or debit card option.
- Phone Registration. Call 1-800-GRE-CALL or 1-800-473-2255. A confirmation number, test center location and scheduled time of examination are provided during the call. Payments are processed through American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, or Visa credit or debit card. For locations outside the United States, find the contact information on the Regional Registration Center (RRC) page of the ETS website.
- Mail Registration. After payment, request a GRE General Test Authorization Voucher by mail. Complete the GRE General Test Authorization Voucher Request Form (PDF). Mail the paper check or money order together with the form to the address printed found in the form. After receiving the authorization voucher, register online or call to schedule an appointment. Set an appointment prior to the expiration date of your authorization voucher.

Yes, the GRE test was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Educational Testing Service (ETS) cancelled all in-person GRE exams or paper-delivered GRE last 2020. As a result, ETS launched an online examination for the GRE General Test. ETS has partnered with 6 brands to conduct an online GRE exam. The 6 brands offering GRE home tests are TOEFL, GRE, Praxis, ParaPro, GACE and Hiset.
What is the cost of the GRE Test?
As of July 1, 2021, the GRE General Test fee is US$205.00 across all countries. India and China have a different GRE General Test fee which is US$231.00 The cost for the GRE General Test is inclusive of any value-added taxes. The fees are subject to change without prior notice.
