2007 Summer Institute on Student Progress Monitoring
July 10-11, 2007
Nashville, TN
We are excited to announce the dates and location of the 2007 Summer Institute on Student Progress Monitoring! Registration and conference details will be available soon and will also be posted on our web site.
On Friday, November 3rd, NCSPM staff presented on “Successfully Implementing RTI and Early Intervening Services through Progress Monitoring,” at the Urban Special Education Leadership Collaborative’s fall meeting, which focused on various aspects of response-to-intervention. The Collaborative is a network of special and general education leaders working together to improve outcomes for students with disabilities in the nation's urban schools.

NCSPM staff will be presenting information about progress monitoring and response-to-intervention at two upcoming national conferences: the Council for Exceptional Children’s 2007 Annual Convention and Expo, being held April 18-21, 2007 in Louisville, KY; and the National Association of School Psychologist’s 2007 Convention, being held March 27–31, 2007 in New York, NY. Join us and share your experiences with student progress monitoring!

ED: Growth Models for Three More States Approved
The Education Department last month approved high-quality growth models for three more states, which follow the bright-line principles of No Child Left Behind. The state of Delaware has been approved to use the growth model for the 2006-07 school year, while Arkansas and Florida are approved provided that their standards and assessment systems receive Departmental authorization by the end of the 2006-07 school year.
IDEA 2004 Video Clips Available
On November 16th, 2006 the Department of Education hosted a webcast, “Building the Legacy: IDEA 2004”, on the Part B final regulations that were released in August 2006. The webcast consisted of a series of short video clips designed to make the regulations easier to navigate. The topics include: Highly Qualified Teachers, Procedural Safeguards, IEP's, and Private Schools. Click here to go directly to the list of video clips. |

CITEd Technology Webinar
The Center for Implementing Technology in Education ( CITEd) is offering a free webinar, entitled “Online and On Time: Supporting Technology Implementation for All Students,” which will be presented by Center Directors Tracy Gray and Mary Thorngren on January 9 at 10:00 AM Central time, and on January 19th at 2:00 PM Central time. Presenters will introduce the interactive Web site tools hosted by CITEd that offer guidance to educators on the stages of effective technology implementation.
IRIS Center Releases Fourth Module on RTI
The IRIS Center for Faculty Enhancement has released its fourth in a series of modules on Response-to-Intervention (RTI). The latest module, “Putting It All Together,” summarizes the different components of this three-tiered intervention. It also illustrates how to combine all the components of the model to effectively meet the needs of struggling readers and to identify students with learning disabilities. |

CASE Winter Institute
The Council of Administrators of Special Education, Inc. (CASE) will hold its annual Winter Institute on January 17-19, 2007 in Clearwater Beach, FL. Titled “The Regs and RtI: Moving Beyond the Basics,” this year’s Winter Institute will focus on the topics of implementing the IDEA 2004 Regulations and developing Response to Intervention (RtI) implementation systems. |

The National Center on Student Progress Monitoring, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), was established to meet the challenge of implementing effective student progress monitoring in order to improve academic instruction. Our mission is to provide technical assistance to states and districts and to disseminate information about student progress monitoring practices proven to work in different academic content areas in grades K-5.
