MBSP Basic Reading is a computer administered progress monitoring tools for individual students, based on Curriculum Based Measurement (CBM).

The assessment task is a maze, where the seventh words of passages are deleted and replaced with 3 possible words, only one of which restores meaning.

The primary score, which is graphed over time, is the number of correct replacements; representing the student’s overall level of reading competence at the grade level on which progress is being monitored.

The tool provides information on student performance in English.

The test was normed using a nationally representative sample of 12,000 students, of which 5 percent had a learning disability

Administration of the test takes 2.5 minutes.

30 alternate forms per grade level are available for Grade 1 through 7.

Raw scores are available. N umber incorrect, number attempts, percentage correct, and score correct for guessing (i.e. number correct – [number incorrect/2]) are also available.

Raw scores are number correct replacement, number of errors, number attempted, percentage correct, and score corrected for guessing
