Annual cost per student for Sopris West materials:

Package One:

$2.36 per student for year 1 and $1.40 per student for subsequent years. This price includes materials for all grade level DIBELS measures.

Package Two:

$59.00 for the complete kit for year 1 and $35.00 for subsequent years. This includes pre-printed benchmark, progress monitoring, and Administration and Scoring Guide materials for 25 students.

Storage & Reporting Option:

$1.00 per student per year for DIBELS data system to maintain, summarize, and report scores. This includes benchmark, progress monitoring, and unlimited reports.

Forms and materials can be downloaded and photocopied for free from the DIBELS website .

Internet access is required for full use of product services.

Testers will require 1-4 hours of training. Paraprofessionals can administer the test.

Accommodations: A list of DIBELS approved accommodations is available in the Administration and Scoring Guide (e.g., giving directions in the student’s primary language or sign language).

Students may respond using their strongest mode of communication. For example, the student may sign, use a word board, or compute to use a word or read a passage. The tester should make a professional judgment regarding the fluency of response. If the student’s fluency is affected by the accommodation, then the standard scoring interpretation (i.e., benchmark goals) should not be applied.

A Braille edition of stimulus materials may also be used if a student has sufficient skills with Braille. Scores for the Braille edition may not be directly comparable.

The DIBELS–RTF is a standardized, individually administered test of comprehension that supplements the DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency (DORF) measure for students in kindergarten through grade 5 and above. DORF and RTF are intended to be used in combination to evaluate reading comprehension.

Student performance is measured by having students retell what they have read aloud for one minute. The number of passage-relevant words in the students’ retell is their score. Students are not penalized for imperfect pronunciation due to dialect, articulation, or second language interference.

The tool provides information on student performance in English.

The test was normed using a national sample.

It takes 3 minutes per probe (7 minutes per 3 probes) to administer RTF to individual students.

30 alternate forms per grade are available for progress monitoring.

Raw, percentile, and developmental benchmark scores are available.

Raw scores are calculated based on the number of passage relevant words a student retells in one minute.

Percentiles are provided using local norms and system-wide norms starting 2003-2004.

Students would be considered at grade level if they are meeting ORF goals for their grade and time of year (e.g., middle of first grade) and their RTF is consistent with their DORF. A student has consistent retell fluency if their RTF score is greater than or equal to 25% of their DORF score. A student has inconsistent retell if their RTF score is less than 25% of their DORF score and their DORF score is at least 40. Little to no comprehension of retell is expected for students with very low oral reading fluency (below 40).
