National Advisory Committee

The National Advisory Committee provides vital insights and advice to the Center about goals and objectives to scale-up progress.

Dr. Diane Browder is a professor at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte in the department of Counseling and Special Education. She has conducted extensive work to enhance the quality of services for students with severe disabilities.

Dr. Stan Deno, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota, is a nationally known expert in curriculum-based measurement (CBM).

Dr. Richard Jackson, Associate Professor and Director of Projects in Low Incidence Disabilities at Boston College, has more than 30 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities. He is currently Teacher Practices Director for the National Center on Accessing the General Curriculum (NCAC) with the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST).

Dr. Kevin McGrew is a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota in the department of Educational Psychology. He has conducted extensive research in the area of student assessment.

Ms. Patricia Ralabate, Senior Professional Associate for Special Needs at the National Education Association (NEA), has 27 years of experience in special education. Currently she serves as a content specialist and policy analyst for special education issues at NEA.

Dr. Bruce Ramirez is the Interim Executive Director of the Council for Exceptional Children.  With his long service to the Council, he has established himself as a national leader in the field of education for children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents, particularly those with culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Ms. Cherie Takemoto is the Executive Director of the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center. She has over 20 years experience both at the state and national levels fostering parent/professional collaboration.

Dr. Martha Thurlow is the Director of the National Center on Educational Outcomes. With 25 years of research experience, she examines national and statewide assessment policies and practices and standards-setting efforts for all grade levels.

Dr. Mabrey Whetstone is the State Coordinator of Special Education for Alabama. In this role, he oversees the implementation of state and federal policies for ensuring high quality services for students with disabilities and their families.
